    Alpha G Apartments

    HBO + EMTB were commissioned to design a leading edge facility within a 10,000sqm million mixed-use development site in South Sydney. Opposite the ACI glassworks site, the development provides a mix of retail and commercial space on the lower two levels, and five floors of 70 residential units above. The 3,400sqm of office space focuses on a site-long wintergarden. This sun-filled internal pedestrian street houses a coffee shop and informal meeting rooms and is shared by the commercial tenants. The building features the latest in high-tech office environments and a communications installation on one side of the long wintergarden wall displays the buildings technical capabilities.

    ANU Innovations Building

    HBO + EMTB designed on the ANU Innovations Building in Canberra. This project involved the design, documentation and contract administration of the 3300sqm economical, ecologically sustainable and contemporary research facility. The building includes laboratories and teaching rooms as well as meeting, conference and seminar rooms. These facilities serve as a shopfront for the Institute of Advanced Studies and attracts funding for a wide range of research and studies. HBO + EMTB designed the facility with a high degree of flexibility in order to accommodate the varied nature of scientific inquiry and activity. The facility can be hired from the University and the tenants may vary from a student completing a PhD to a large company carrying out Research and Development studies. All services in the building are deliberately not encased so that simple and convenient alterations are possible. In fact, some of the exposed services are woven into the functional aesthetics of the building. The laboratories have been designed to maximise indirect natural light. Some of the biological laboratories have been specifically designed to accommodate light-sensitive materials and their handling. External horizontal and vertical louvres are specifically placed and accurately angled to ensure no direct sunlight enters these zones. The circulation areas around the building are very light and airy. The voids between floors, with glass balustrades are covered with light, bright colours as well as sunlights and generous windows. The design of the building adheres to all contemporary passive design theories and represents the vanguard of Ecologically Sustainable Design.

    Astor Apartments

    HBO + EMTB provided extensive refurbishment and maintenance work on this thirteen floor heritage-listed building in the heart of Sydney CBD. The sophisticated elegant, yet functional design solutions considered both public and private spaces and feature roof-top gardens and entertainment area, fully-equipped leisure center and a state-of-the-art security system.

    Australian National Gallery

    This project involved the design of Australia`s premier art gallery. The gallery has subsequently become one of Canberra`s principal attractions. The design was the winning entry in a national design competition and the winner of the Canberra Medallion.

    Crowne Plaza Hotel, Apartments + Golf Lodges

    HBO + EMTB have designed a156-bedroom hotel, 54 dwelling apartment block and 60 golf lodges, all overlooking ClubCorp`s Macquarie Links International Golf Course. The hotel will be operated by Intercontinental Hotels Group, under its Crowne Plaza brand. The development, adjoining the Macquarie Links Estate, is developed within the framework of the Council approved masterplan. Under an innovative arrangement, the hotel`s facilities will be made available to residents of the adjoining apartments and golf lodges within the hotel precinct. Owners of these properties will also be able to enter into management agreements that allow the hotel to manage their properties. The buildings relate to local climatic conditions, with appropriate orientation, materials and shading devices. The hotel provides opportunities for leisure both inside and outside, including spa, gym, leisure pools, lap pool, ballrooms, meeting rooms, bars and a restaurant. The three main building types on the site, hotel, apartment and golf lodge are each clearly articulated. A combination of forms and a material palette of predominantly render, steel, timber and glass ties the building types together to form a unified whole around a hierarchy of differing spaces and connections.

    DeIuliis Winery

    Located in the heart of the Hunter Valley, this boutique operation features a restaurant and gallery campus and a 1,000 tonne winery and tasting room. The existing restaurant, Mallees, and gallery, Butterflies, have been housed in new facilities - a direct response to the expanding visitor patronage to this popular wine region. The De Iuliis family engaged HBO + EMTB to design the winery and tasting room within the new restaurant and gallery campus. Our highly responsive design has created a series of vernacular shed forms which explore key functional and environmentally sustainable options. The winery is embellished with skylights, extensive covered overhangs, and verandah elements that maximise the use of natural light and ventilation, while still being sympathetic to the rural expression of the landscape.

    Department of Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs

    The DIMIA Head Office is one of the largest Federal Government projects in recent years, consolidating 1,800 staff within one location. HBO%A0+%A0EMTB is responsible for initial facilities planning, design and documentation of both base building and integrated fitout. The 34,100m%B2, environmentally sustainable development incorporates two separate wings, each six levels plus basement parking, connected by a central link. The primary challenge facing the interior design team involved bringing humanity and scale to the building. In response to the large floorplates, HBO+EMTB have created functional environments consisting of a `town square`, `neighbourhoods` for the various departments and `addresses` for individual users. Shared facilities such as a café along with meeting, conferencing and breakout spaces link these discrete areas. The design adheres to DIMIA`s stringent security requirements and exceeds the requirements of the Commonwealth Goverment`s brief for energy efficiency. A highly collaborative approach between builder, developer, tenant and design team has seen this complex project delivered two months ahead of scheduled and at commercially attractive terms.

    El Pueblo

    HBO + EMTB provided site planning, architecture and interior design services for the Philippines` first condormitel project, a 32,000 square metre complex of affordable residential and commercial units. The residential units are all fully furnished, located conveniently within the reach of the commercial area and equipped with modern, well-appointed amenities. The design has achieved a vibrant street-level community atmosphere. Our understanding of the complex commercial and social issues that surrounded this project was paramount to its success.

    Holsworthy Commuter Facilities

    HBO + EMTB were engaged as head consultants by the NSW Department of Transport to provide masterplanning and design and documentation services for the staged development of a multi-storey commuter carpark and its environs. The commission was extended to include easy access facilities for the station, coordination of the interface with the adjoining Department of Defence Kokoda Fields commercial and residential development and urban design work associated with the quadruplication of the East Hills Line.

    IMAX - Brisbane

    HBO + EMTB drew on the themes of earlier IMAX cinema designs with this new addition to Brisbane`s vibrant Southbank entertainment precinct. This particular variant of the incredibly popular IMAX, includes four movie cinemas, two cafes and two restaurants. The structure includes a dramatic sloping atrium surrounded by newly landscaped gardens and pedestrian pathways.

    IMAX - Sydney

    The 540 seat Imax Cinema forms the centrepiece of Darling Harbour`s eastern city edge. Located among the freeways at the edge of Cockle Bay, HBO + EMTB`s elegant design found solutions for many obstacles of space, fit, sound, size and context. The symbolism of the outer structure is the human eye, with references to classical theatrical philosophies. The work was awarded the RAIA Merit award. The building features the world`s largest cinema screen constructed. Apart from the theatre itself, the complex also features a stunning contemporary bar and two hundred seat restaurant, bookshop and function space. The complex has quickly become an icon of the Darling Harbour and Cockle Bay entertainment and leisure precinct. HBO + EMTB has also completed the design of IMAX theatres in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Bangkok, and Buenos Aires.

    Locomotive Maintenance Centre

    United Goninan & Co engaged HBO + EMTB to complete this facility which now services the new National Rail locomotive fleet. A complex, multi-faceted project, we demonstrated a thorough understanding of each stage involved. Along with the design of the facility, HBO + EMTB also undertook the analysis of government ordinance implications, environmental issues, work safety issues (new work practices), and master planning of the site to allow for the present and future growth. Possible additional maintenance procedures were also accommodated.

    NSW Dept of Agriculture Head Office Building

    In an enormously successful commission, HBO + EMTB undertook facility planning, building design, documentation, quality review and interior fitout for the NSW Department of Agriculture`s move from Sydney to Orange. HBO + EMTB completed the NSW Agriculture building ahead of time and on budget and relocated over 450 personnel within a four week period.

    P & O Nedlloyd Corporate Headquarters

    In the Western Precinct of the City of Sydney CBD, HBO + EMTB designed and documented a landmark headquarters building for P&O Australia. This stylish 14 level building provides over 12,000sqm of office space overlooking Darling Harbour. The double glazed metal curtain walls and the use of a sophisticated computer controlled 35 vehicle stacking system are important elements of the HBO + EMTB design solution. Completed on time and within budget, the site is now occupied by P&O, serving the Australasian region.

    Questacon

    This re-design for the foyer/reception area for Questacon, a hands-on, interactive science and technology museum, had a two-fold purpose. Firstly to allow the foyer elements of retail, reception, cloaking, assembly and café, to operate efficiently and secondly, to deliver to the patron a sense of excitement, expectation and interest appropriate to a science and technology centre. A sense of drama was achieved through the use of metallic finishes, darkening of the foyer, and the application of fibre optics, projections, audio and visual use of interactive displays and a complete re-oganisation of patron circulation.

    Sydney Entertainment Centre

    The largest indoor multi-purpose entertainment facility in Australia, seating 12,000 people in a column free auditorium. It is also capable of conversion to a theatre seating 7,000 people for opera, ballet and open stage productions. HBO + EMTB completed architectural works on the refurbishment program for the Entertainment Centre just prior to the Sydney Olympic Games. The project includes innovative incorporation of Environmentally Sustainable Design. HBO + EMTB were responsible for the original building design and documentation.

    Waldorf Waitara

    HBO + EMTB responded to a commission by Whitehall Property Group to design a large mid-range suburban apartment complex which departed from the usual monolithic expression of similar developments. The project houses 136 apartments in two eight-storey buildings that form part of a new medium density precinct in Waitara. The design is modern classic, with simple finishes and a neutral, open feel. The building is integrated into the local domestic fabric with modern interpretations. The placement of windows and the large wrap-around balconies provide an atmosphere of substantial open space while the outer balcony walls create a sense of enclosure, ownership and privacy.

    Wolli Creek Interchange

    As part of the Ove Arup - Airport Link - Transfield Bouygues Joint Venture, HBO + EMTB undertook the design and documentation of this new easy access railway station at the crossover of underground New Southern Railway and ongrade Illawarra lines. The Interchange was designed to facilitate passenger transfers between platforms on each line. Our extensive resources and expertise ensured we were able to meet the fast track documentation that was required to meet track possession and NSR implementation programme commitments.

    Alinta Call Centre

    HBO+EMTB has completed the fitout of Alinta`s new call centre in Perth. The flexible design uses generous natural light and colour to create a bright, stimulating environment. The fitout is predominantly open plan and utilises two distinct types of workstations: a zig-zig configuration for the call center area, and a standard 90 degree configuration with slightly higher screens providing increased privacy for administrative and management staff. Workstations and built zones are located to allow maximum flow of natural light deep into the floor plate. Flexibility is achieved through the use of operable walls, allowing training rooms to be divided into smaller meeting rooms or alternatively used to accommodate fluctuations in call centre workpoints required. To meet the needs of the call centre staff, the design solution includes large breakout spaces with natural light and generous seating. This provides an area of visual and aural difference, allowing staff to collaborate, relax or reinvigorate.

    Challenger International Limited

    Challenger International is an expanding organisation that wished to reflect its international status through the design of its new Sydney headquarters. HBO + EMTB completed the interior design for the office which takes up the four of the uppermost tenanted levels of Renzo Piano`s Aurora Place in Phillip Street, Sydney. The fitout includes one client and three typical floors. Located on the top floor, under the building`s double story and expansive glazed roof structure, the client reception area is architecturally exceptional. The space is dominated by a 3-D glass structure made of independent boxes, joined to function as a series of meeting rooms. A café-like waiting space located beside a more formal low seating area, enjoys the spectacle of the Botanical Gardens and Sydney Harbour.

To reflect the client`s modern image, graphics and colour inspired by Colgate`s product range were used throughout to create a vibrant, dynamic environment.     HBO + EMTB has assisted Deloitte in achieving a national accommodation solution. To date, HBO + EMTB are responsible for tenancies in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane. Rather than considering each commission in isolation, HBO + EMTB adopted a holistic, environmentally sustainable design approach that accounted the client`s broader accommodation requirements. A vision statement and accommodation brief was developed, outlining Deloitte`s expectations of facilities into the future. The established spatial standards, design principles and a `kits of parts` were then applied. The design intent is to `open up` the work environment by providing a creative, flowing sense of space. Low screens and the removal of barriers allow communication and vistas across the floor. A preference to limit built zones to meeting rooms facilitates openness in both the physical and cultural sense. Partners and experienced staff are positioned amongst their team allowing a natural transfer of knowledge in an environment of unconscious learning. Centrally located, multifunctional breakout spaces (all with connectivity) serve as casual extensions of meeting areas and additional conduits to interaction and collaboration.

    HBO + EMTB have instigated a new direction in contemporary boutique-style hotel design for Hilton International. Our interior design of Hilton Auckland, a 167 room hotel stunningly located on Princes Wharf, features a continuous flow, creating an intimate and comfortable atmosphere. Completed in a tight time frame, the high quality finish has bought added value to the hotel. HBO + EMTB undertook design of all guest rooms, public spaces, the lobby and conference facilities.

    HBO + EMTB are responsible for the interior design of this prestigious national law firm`s new office in Barton, ACT. In essence, we assisted Minter Ellison as they embark on a new phase in their working environment. A key factor in this development is that Minter Ellison wishes to `explore the flexibility of a less traditional legal office layout.` The design team has been encouraged to review and challenge the current operational processes in order to influence cultural change.

    NM Rothschild engaged HBO+EMTB to coordinate the development of their new Perth premises. They required a functional workplace that demonstrated the company`s fiscal responsibility to their clients. HBO+EMTB embarked on creating a space that met the varied staff requirements. This included the provision of generous informal and formal meeting spaces whilst minimising the need for expansive personal spaces. The fl exible design also incorporates space for future expansion which, until required, is utilised as a comfortable informal meeting area. HBO+EMTB worked closely with the base building contractor, Multiplex and the project manager, Clifton Coney Stevens, to ensure seamless delivery. Our commitment to maintaining strong lines of communication with all parties involved saw the integrated fitout achieved in an extremely tight time frame. The result is a classic, minimalist environment in keeping with NM Rothschild`s desire to be demonstrably prudent and professional.

    Philip Morris

    Philip Morris commissioned HBO + EMTB to design and project new premises for the consolidation of their sales and distribution operations. Initial facilities planning services were also provided to assist Phillip Morris in identifying and assessing their requirements against the approved project budget. Faced with the challenge of completing the project within a tight five week programme, HBO+EMTB coordinated the development of plans, concepts, FF&E selection and detailed design & documentation in tandem with construction. The selected site, an industrial facility without ceiling provision nor services, required HBO+EMTB to undertake extensive diligence to ensure the successful integration of interiors with a new ceiling system, structural works, M&E support, in addition to plumbing systems required for a marine aquarium and sandstone wall water feature. In addition, artwork selection was undertaken by HBO+EMTB to strengthen the design language throughout the space.

    Arcenas Estate

    HBO + EMTB was responsible for the masterplanning of this important 25 hectare mixed-use commercial development in Cebu. Key issues of space, accessibility, potential market, land and development costs, and other future developments were carefully considered in arriving at our solution. The masterplan incorporated residential, retail and leisure precincts, as well as an IT park, hotel and country club. We also envisaged a commercial complex of medium rise office buildings. Our design analysis work highlighted how the site`s positioning as the only access point to the Mountains of Banawa offers a unique opportunity for the estate to become the major residential and recreational development in the city.

    Broadoak Waters

    The Department of Defence recently released this 20 hectare waterfront site for tender for medium density housing development. Located opposite Sydney Olympic Park, the site was formerly utilised as a Naval Stores Facility. An extensive redevelopment is now proposed to transform it into an integrated community of approximately 850 residential dwelling units comprising townhouses, apartments and single houses. As part of a D & C consortium team HBO + EMTB prepared the masterplan for the consortium`s development tender bid. Our mission was to develop a masterplan which established an optimum unit mix in terms of development return and offered a public realm of the highest urban design quality. Several options were developed. Street patterns sought to discourage through site traffic. Issues addressed in the options included day lighting, over shadowing, over-looking of private courtyards, the flow and containment of common open space, its integration with pedestrian paths, the management and enhancement of views and the inclusion of water features. The built form was carefully disposed across the site to ensure an appropriate distribution of the site population and convenient access to centralised local community amenities and convenience retailing.

    Carter Street Precinct

    For the Sydney Olympic Park Authority and Auburn Council, HBO + EMTB are currently completing a design study of the Carter Street Precinct focusing on the area adjacent to the Sydney Olympic Park Coach Parking area to accommodate the intention of future redevelopment. The study includes a review of proposed land use, street and block patterns, vehicle and pedestrian curculation networks and connections to surroundings, subdivision, built forms and open space location. Future development has been facilitated through detailed guidelines determining appropriate land use and design principles. The potential for a vehicular access route from Edwin Flack Avenue to Parramatta Road through the study area has also been investigated.

    Jin Wei Tang Development

    HBO + EMTB were selected to participate in an invited design competition to redevelop Jin Wei Tang, the major district of Chang Sha City. Our conceptual vision for the 4.6 hectares mixed-use development focussed its main organising principle around a vibrant retail `spine` and culminated in a landmark commercial complex comprising three cylindrical office towers. The towers represent the government`s long-term strategy for the province - the merging of the three satellite cities of Chang Sha, Xiang Tan and Zhuzhou to become one greater whole. In our proposal, trees form a linear riverfront avenue. This axis penetrates into the core of the site, a retail centre with commercial space above. The proposed retail area includes large open department stores and smaller boutique shops fronting the streets and arcades. The high rise commercial building complex features advanced ESD concepts. The three office buildings provide the primary form of the development. Glass infill between these elements forms a dramatic public lobby at ground level. Skylobbies link the buildings within this exciting atrium space. Community facilities such as fitness centres and pools are provided at ground and first levels while the residential apartments boast views of the river and mountains.

    Mt Druitt Town Centre

    Submission for the Masterplan of the Mount Druitt Town Centre and development of a regional shopping centre, in association with Development Planning & Research Pty Ltd. The resultant commission to design the first stage of the shopping centre included plans for relocation of the existing railway station to integrate transport facilities with the new town centre. Completed designs included the new railway station, bus terminal and town square.

    Westgate Centre occupies a 9.5 hectare property in Alabang, Muntinlupa. Unlike traditional entertainment complexes, which come to life only in the evenings, Westgate is a day-and-night concept that will deliver a well-rounded retail and lifestyle experience, assuring continued customer traffic and patronage 24 hours a day. By day, it will provide a sophisticated shopping experience with the convenience of drive-up retail in a weather-protected open-air streetscape environment. Its generous sidewalks will support both informal street life and programmned events such as street theatre. By night, Westgate will provide the perfect setting for alfresco wining and dining and entertainment activities. HBO + EMTB has been engaged for both the masterplanning of the site and the design of the complex.

    Bloomberg Financial

    Bloomberg Financial is a leading International investment company with offices around the world. Part of the signature for each office is the inclusion of an aquarium. HBO + EMTB designed a difficult entry to a reception area presented with a 20 metre long corridor from a lift rise on the other side of the floor. It is one of the Southern Hemisphere`s largest aquarium exhibits in a private collection. Break out areas, office space and dealing room facilities were also accounted for in the fitout.

    The aim of the project was to provide a headquarter showcase for international real-estate and property group Jones Lang LaSalle. Integral to this project was the fact that Jones Lang LaSalle wished to instigate a totally new direction in terms of office environment. One that confirmed a leadership and relevance of the company among clients and employees alike. A key factor was to modernise and improve productivity within the workplace. The fitout included general office workspace, auditorium, client floor, breakout meeting facilities, corporate library, computer room, document centre and mailroom within a new Sydney CBD landmark tower.

    Nortel Networks - Photonics

    Nortel Networks required a new state-of-the-art facility for the photonics division. HBO + EMTB located a building site for the project where a partially complete three level shell (8,000m2) was already in place. A combined Interior Design, Architecture, and Consulting team then completed a design and construct process for the building. The key element of the brief was to accommodate the ramp up of a small existing location (30-50 employees) to a 24 hour operational high-tech research and development facility that incorporated the flexibility necessary to support up to 700 employees on rotating shifts
